You’ve probably seen the articles. They’re everywhere. Articles about retiring baby boomers, older Americans trapped in poverty, and the high costs of medical care. The list goes on. Now Wider Opportunities for Women (WOW) is offering a solution to the pressing problem of how exactly older Americans can manage to live and age with dignity.
On April 29, WOW will announce its new program, the Elder Economic Security Initiative (EESI). Integral to that initiative is the Elder Economic Security Standard, a geographically based tool that helps elders calculate the appropriate income necessary to cover basic costs such as housing, medical expenses, food, transportation and some leisure activities. The Elder Economic Security Standard measures income adequacy, not poverty.
