This summer marks the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots that began the modern gay rights movement. To mark this occaision, join The Power by signing a petition calling on Speaker Nancy Pelosi to lead the 111th Congress in expanding the Civil Rights Act to declare once and for all that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) rights are civil rights, and that it will be the public policy of the United States that discrimination based on LGBT status is prohibited.
The petition, copies of which will be sent to Speaker Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and the President’s LGBT Liason, Brian Bond, will be delivered on June 1, 2009, the first day of the 40th annual Gay Pride Month.
Please join us in our struggle to secure full protection under the law for ALL people in the United States. Read and sign the petition here.
When you sign the petition you will be asked to make a donation to our cause. Kindly give if you can, but if you can’t, please sign the petition anyway and then skip the donation screen by hitting “next” or closing the window.
Over the past few years, we have seen clearly that America remains the “home of the brave.” Now let’s show the world that it is, finally and fully, also “the land of the free.” Thank you!
