Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy

Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy

Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), the largest nonprofit organization in the U.S. committed to finding treatments and a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, sought out Make Waves to help them increase their visibility and draw media attention to important events taking place in the Duchenne muscular dystrophy community.

The Solution:

President Bonnie McEwan, Account Director Joan Grangenois-Thomas and Account Executive Ami Watkin have all taken active roles in promoting PPMD.  Make Waves has written multiple press releases for PPMD on topics such as the discovery of PTC124, a breakthrough drug, and the publication of a book by a young boy living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Make Waves has helped to strategically promote fundraising events held by PPMD, such as the Run For Our Sons “Rocky Run,” which was a highlight of the organization’s annual conference in July 2007. Pitches were made to 15 mainstream media outlets and 55 websites in the Philadelphia area.

We recently completed distribution of PPMD’s new video public service announcement to key markets throughout the United States.

The Results:

The marketing and media relations campaigns put forth by Make Waves on behalf of PPMD have been wildly successful. For the Rocky Run event, we successfully placed online postings about the event on 21 websites, including Hellophiladelphia.com and Runnersworld.com.  We also secured television coverage from Philadelphia’s CBS and ABC affiliates. ABC sent a news van and did a live feed during a newsbreak that aired during Good Morning America and relayed all pertinent information about the event, Duchenne, and PPMD.
