The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center (The Center) is a nonprofit that is dedicated to serving the needs of the LGBT community in and around Manhattan. 2008 marks the Center’s 25th Anniversary, and to commemorate the occasion the Center enlisted MAKE WAVES to produce their Annual Report.
The Solution:
In order to make this Annual Report stand out from those of the past, MAKE WAVES took a fresh approach to its content and layout. We wanted to honor the Center’s past, make note of its current, innovative programs, and lay the foundation for the Center’s upcoming capital campaign. In order to accurately represent the many facets of the Center, we worked closely with Center staff (past and present) and added an outstanding graphic designer to our team, Ilene Block of Idea Works.
MAKE WAVES conducted extensive interviews with a dozen Center employees, volunteers and others in the LGBTQ movement. We then used that information to write a series of sidebars that highlighted the many organizations that got their start at the Center. Our executive vice president, Kathy Duncan, spent days going through the Center’s massive collection of photographs taken through the organization’s 25 year history. The result is an impressive Annual Report that we hope will inspire pride and renewed commitment to the Center for the thousands of people who use it annually.
