Wider Opportunities for Women
Washington-based nonprofit Wider Opportunities for Women (WOW) sought MAKE WAVES’ assistance to promote the launch of their new program, the Elder Economic Security Initiative (EESI), a multi-year advocacy project to promote the economic well-being of elders.
The Solution:
The first step in building a communications plan for WOW was conducting a landscape assessment. We conducted comprehensive searches on LexisNexis, referenced polls from the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research and the Gallup Poll, and examined the messaging utilized by organizations belonging to the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations and/or the National Institute on Aging. We utilized our findings to create a communications plan that strategically brands and promotes EESI on a national and state level via print, web and broadcast media.
The Results:
We held audio news conferences to announce the national launch of EESI and the Pennsylvania state launch. Live events were held to introduce EESI in Illinois and Wisconsin.
Since holding those events, we have secured over forty media hits for EESI. Highlights include:
An article in the Wisconsin State Journal.
An article in the Wisconsin Capital Times.
